CPD for mediators and lawyers · 4 CPD hours
When did you last take a client's problem home with you?
Learn to notice what your clients bring into the room, and what you bring, and stop carrying it home.
START THE PROGRAMTHIS IS THE PART TRAINING LEAVES OUT
You're trained to manage the process. Not what it does to you.
This programme helps you to:
✓ Recognise transference and countertransference while it's happening, not on the drive home
✓ Stay on your ground with a client who is working hard to move you
✓ Use your own reactions as information rather than a problem
✓ Notice the signs of vicarious trauma and secondary stress in yourself
✓ Leave the session in the room, not take it into your evening
Four CPD hours, at your own pace
Twenty short videos, a roleplay and a workbook, with a certificate issued by me personally.
After your next difficult session, you could…
» Name what happened in you, not only what the client did
» Use bracketing and The One Thing in the moment
» Know when to take it to supervision
Small practices, used at the right moment, change what you carry home. That's what this programme gives you.
INTRODUCING
When the Room Gets Personal
Every client brings their history into the room. So do you.
This programme is for family and civil mediators, solicitors, barristers and anyone else who sits in the middle of other people's conflict.
It's built around The Living Instrument: the idea that you are part of the process, and that your reactions are information.
You'll learn how to:
» Tell your material apart from your client's
» Hold neutrality honestly, as something you return to rather than something you have
» Look after yourself in work that asks a lot of you
Built from a live workshop and recorded so you can take it at your own pace.
What's included in the programme…
PART 1
The Human in the Room
Transference, countertransference and the neutrality myth, and why "staying neutral" is harder than it sounds.
You'll learn:
✓ How to spot transference, and yours, as it happens
✓ Bracketing: a 30-second way to hold your assumptions
✓ The One Thing, and the three channels of The Living Instrument
You'll finish this part with two practices you can use in your next session.
PART 2
In the Room
Three practitioners pulled off their ground, and what happened to them. Then it's your turn.
You'll:
✓ Read a case file as Richard's mediator or his solicitor
✓ Take the chair while Richard talks to you on screen
✓ Take apart what happened in you, not only what you said
You'll finish this part knowing where you get moved off your ground.
PART 3
Being Kinder to Yourself
Where the weight of this work goes.
You'll learn:
✓ The difference between burnout, vicarious trauma and secondary traumatic stress
✓ Three things that help
✓ Two pieces of writing that are just for you
You'll finish this part with a plan for looking after yourself after difficult sessions.
PART 4
Your CPD Certificate
Send in page 15 of your workbook:
Three key words and three short reflections.
✓ I read every submission myself
✓ Your certificate for 4 CPD hours follows within 5 working days
You'll finish with evidence of real reflection, not just time watched.
This programme is for you if…
✓ You're a mediator, solicitor, barrister or other practitioner working with conflict
✓ A client has ever got under your skin and you didn't know why
✓ You replay sessions long after they've ended
✓ You need CPD that means something, not a box ticked
NICE TO MEET YOU
I'm Dr Massimo Stocchi-Fontana
I'm a Psychologist, Clinical Sexologist and Family and Civil mediator, working between the UK and Spain. For years I've sat with people in conflict and trained the professionals who do the same.
I built this programme from a live workshop. The same thing came up again and again: skilled, experienced people who are very good at the process, and who have never been given permission to talk about what the process does to them. This is that permission, with tools to go with it.
